FAQs

Can anyone operate an eFoil?

Yes, eFoils are suitable for all ages so long as the operator has sufficient swimming experience, and is equipped with open-water safety devices where needed. eFoils do take some time to get the hang of when you're first starting out, but we've got plenty of accessories that help to greatly reduce the barrier to entry. Even without them, anyone can learn to ride, as ride time alone is the biggest contributor to skill-building.

What's included in the box?

Every SiFly eFoil comes with everything you need to get started:

  • The eFoil itself, including the battery, board, wingset, and mast/motor assembly.
  • The remote controller, used to change the eFoil's settings and which acts as your throttle while riding.
  • Two carrying cases, one for the board, and one for the mast assembly and wingset.
  • A user manual.

SiFly also offers some optional accessories, like the Quick Mount System to reduce assembly and disassembly time, roller wheels for the board's carrying case, a jet drive system, and several beginner-oriented learning aides. Alternative wingsets are also available, to change the eFoil's ride characteristics, but the included wingset has been selected to best match your board.

What learning aides are offered, and how do they help? How does the EZ Go Stabilizer work?

For beginner riders looking to start eFoiling as quickly as possible, SiFly offers some helpful accessories.

  • Floatie: An inflatable raft the attaches to the edges of the board, making it easier to get a feel for how the board responds to throttle inputs while reducing the frequency of falls and increasing stability.
  • EZ GO: One of the most common hurdles when learning to eFoil is controlling the throttle to avoid breaching the surface. The EZ Go is an attachable stabilizer that mechanically reduces lift when the main wingset gets too close to breaching the surface, which is one of the most common causes for falls when you're starting out. This difference in lift force is an excellent training tool for beginners to learn how high from the surface they can ride before becoming at risk of a surface breach.
What are the main differences between the models?

The power train is shared across all SiFly models, so the biggest differentiating factors are the board length and materials, and the included wingset. Shorter and lighter boards are harder to use but offer a wider range of capabilities, while longer and heavier boards are more stable. The Rider series was designed for ease of use and an excellent performance-to-price ratio, as their long boards and forgiving construction paired with the included Dual Ride wingset make for an excellent value proposition. The Stellar series lets more skilled riders choose which characteristics they value the most, and the carbon board construction saves a significant amount of weight, which improves responsiveness.

What are the main differences between the wingsets?

The wingset included with each model has been selected to best match the board's intended use case and performance characteristics, but riders can choose to install different wingsets to fine tune or even completely change their board's capabilities and ride feel. Larger wingsets like the Cruise L / S provide better stability for learning and cruising at the cost of maneuverability and performance, while smaller wingsets like the Sport provide less resistance for advanced maneuvers and higher top speeds.

The main reason for these differing characteristics is the "aspect ratio", or the ratio between a wing's length and width, of the main wing in each wingset. The Dual Ride and Sport wings are high-aspect, while the Cruiser wings are low-aspect.

Is the app required to use the eFoil?

While the app is required for initial setup to pair the included controller with the eFoil, it's not required for continued use, as the controller is capable of changing all of the board's settings. The app does provide some extra functionality, like viewing ride logs, using fleet management features, and easier settings customization.

How does remote management work for commercial use?

The app and remote web interface can both be used to manage your fleet of eFoils, by configuring per-device top speed, settings geofencing limits, and setting session timers for timed rentals. You can also remotely view key info about each device, including battery status, and view ride logs/session replays for all previous rides.

What are the advantages of the Jet Drive upgrade?

The Jet Drive upgrade includes a different propeller design and prop guard, designed to spin at a higher RPM. The main advantages it offers are improved safety, as the prop is completely enclosed, and a more stable ride feel as the thrust produced by the jet prop is more predictable. It's also quieter, thanks to the jet prop's smaller diameter. Jet Drive is recommended for the following use cases:

  • Beginners who find the throttle response of the regular prop drive too aggressive, even on lower settings
  • Riding in shallow and/or debris-filled water, as prop strikes are nearly impossible
  • Those who prioritize safety, stability, and quiet operation above raw performance

After installing the Jet Drive kit, you will need to reverse the motor's rotation direction using the companion app.

Why is the motor limited to 5.5 kW, when it's rated for 8 kW?

The main limiting factor is the continuous current output rating of the battery pack. Using a higher current limit would only provide a marginal performance boost due to the drag characteristics of water, in exchange for accelerated battery degradation, and hotter-running electronics. 5.5 kW is the experimentally-tested highest-possible power limit that provides excellent performance while also protecting the battery and electronics from unnecessary wear.

What's covered under warranty, and how long does the warranty last?

SiFly's warranty lasts two years from the date of delivery to your door, and it covers manufacturing or operational defects on all parts of the eFoil, including the electronics and housing. User-inflicted damage is not covered under warranty, for example, if you hit an obstacle at speed while operating the eFoil. For urgent repair and warranty requests within the first year of ownership, Aquaplane has got you covered. We work closely with SiFly to support their eFoils, and we pride ourselves on providing fast and thorough responses to any and all support inquiries.

When will you be shipping? What countries do you ship to?

Our first shipment of eFoils will be shipping out to customers in mid March of 2026. We currently ship to to the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean. Shipping to the Caribbean typically comes with a $500 freight shipping cost, as these Scooters are too large to ship via conventional methods, while shipping is free within the continental US and Canada.

What kind of maintenance is required?

These eFoils require very little, if any maintenance, since all electronics are enclosed and important components like motor bearings are adequately sealed. There are no wear items that need regular replacement, which is one of the best parts of modern electric propulsion! We do, however, recommend thoroughly washing your Scooter with fresh/tap water after using it in saltwater conditions as soon as possible to minimize the risk of long-term corrosion. Occasionally checking the seals, making sure all bolts are tight, and applying fresh dielectric grease to critical connections is all that's needed to ensure continued safe operation.

Can I repair my own eFoil at home?

Yes, at-home repairs are possible so long as you possess the minimum requisite skills to remove and replace components. SiFly eFoils were designed to be modular, making it easier to perform repairs if necessary without having to ship the board back and forth. If you're not comfortable working on your own eFoil, feel free to contact us, and we'll help you get it sent in for repair.

Do you sell spare parts?

We do have spare parts available for purchase. If you suspect you may need a replacement part, please contact us and we'll work with you to determine what your eFoil may need, and assist from there.

Can I change the color of my eFoil board later on?

Changing the color of the board would require replacement, so it's not viable to change the board's color in most situations.

What is the expected life of the battery pack?

SiFly's battery packs are built using some of the highest-quality components on the market, including high-performance cells, and top-shelf BMS modules with plenty of safety features. While you may see a small amount of range degradation over a period of many years of continuous use, the battery will not have to be replaced for the life of the eFoil.

What is the maximum rate of charge?

The battery packs are current-limited to a maximum charging rate of 20A, which the included fast charger is capable of providing, so you're getting the fastest possible charge right out of the box!
