Can anyone operate an Aquaplane Sea Scooter?

Yes! Aquaplane Sea Scooters are suitable for users at all levels of fitness aged 10 and up, although we recommend having a base level of confidence in swimming. Life jackets and other standard open-water precautions are to be taken if operating a Sea Scooter in those conditions.

What are the main differences between the Mantis & Barracuda?

The Mantis is lighter and more compact, constructed around a plastic shell, while the Barracuda is larger and more powerful, built around an extra-light & rigid carbon-fiber shell.

On a technical level, the Barracuda has an upgraded jet, larger battery, more powerful controller, and some other smaller upgrades that help improve performance. Both models are equipped with industry-leading electronics, so you can rest assured that no matter which one you choose, you'll have plenty of power on tap to handle all types of recreation.

An added bonus feature of the Barracuda is one-handed operation, which is helpful for divers who'd prefer to have a hand free for equalizing or interacting with other dive equipment without heaving to release the throttle on their Sea Scooter.

When will you be shipping? What countries do you ship to?

Our first round of Scooters will be shipping out to customers in late April of 2026. We currently ship to to the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean. Shipping to the Caribbean typically comes with a $500 freight shipping cost, as these Scooters are too large to ship via conventional methods, while shipping is free within the continental US and Canada.

What's covered under warranty, and how long does the warranty last?

Our warranty lasts one year from the date of delivery to your door, and it covers manufacturing or operational defects on all parts of the Scooter, including the electronics and housing. User-inflicted damage is not covered under warranty, for example, if you hit an obstacle at speed while operating the Scooter.

When will the buoyancy weight kit be available?

Since we know that neutral buoyancy is important for divers, we're prioritizing the development of the weight kit with the goal of having them ready to ship out to customers at the same time as our first new production run of Sea Scooters in late March. The kit is an optional upgrade/add-on, so please contact us if you'd like your Scooter to come with one.

What kind of maintenance is required?

These Scooters require very little, if any maintenance, since all electronics are enclosed and important components like motor bearings are adequately sealed. There are no wear items that need regular replacement, which is one of the best parts of modern electric propulsion! We do, however, recommend thoroughly washing your Scooter with fresh/tap water after using it in saltwater conditions as soon as possible to minimize the risk of long-term corrosion.

Can I repair my own Sea Scooter at home?

Yes, at-home repairs are possible so long as you possess the minimum requisite skills to remove and replace components. Aquaplane Sea Scooters were designed to be modular, making it easier to perform repairs if necessary without having to ship the Scooter back and forth. If you're not comfortable working on your own Scooter, feel free to contact us, and we'll help you get it sent in for repair.

Do you sell spare parts?

We do have spare parts available for purchase. If you suspect you may need a replacement part, please contact us and we'll work with you to determine what your Scooter may need, and assist from there.

Can I change the color of my Sea Scooter?

It is possible to purchase a replacement shell if you'd like to change the color of your Scooter, but there is a considerable amount of work involved in the replacement process, as the unit will need to be fully disassembled and reassembled into the new shell. Please contact us if you'd like to order a replacement shell for your Scooter.

When will the companion app be released? What functions will it have?

The app is currently in development, with the release currently scheduled between March and April, but all important functions can still be performed on the Scooter's display. The app will allow you to view current status information, run diagnostics in the event of a critical system error, change the Scooter's settings, and view your total usage hours/runtime. Firmware update functionality will be available, but your scooter will come out of the box with tried-and-tested firmware already installed, so there's no urgent need for this feature to be implemented.

What is the relationship between iAqua & Aquaplane?

iAqua is now Aquaplane. Our recent product releases are such a significant leap forward that we felt it necessitated a new brand identity, and we've invested much more heavily into North American & Caribbean distribution while still supporting our existing iAqua customers.

What is the expected life of the battery pack?

Our battery packs are built using some of the highest-quality components on the market, including high-performance cells, and top-shelf BMS modules with active cell balancing and plenty of other battery management features. While you may see a small amount of range degradation over a period of many years of continuous use, the battery will not have to be replaced for the life of the Scooter.

What is the maximum rate of charge?

The battery packs are current-limited to a maximum charging rate of 20A. We do have an optional 20A rapid charger available for purchase, which is especially handy for rental and recreational owners looking to keep time in the water up and time on the charger down.

Will the battery pack be upgradeable to solid-state, once those cells are available?

While progress in the solid-state battery state is at an all-time high, it will still be some time before this new technology is ready for mass-adoption. Once these new battery cells are readily available for a reasonable price, we'll be offering battery upgrades for existing Aquaplane owners.
